“For the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness, righteousness and truth.” (Ephesians 5:9)
COMMENT: As you know, Abraham and Lot had too many flocks and herds to live together; the land was not able to support them. (Genesis 13:6-12) So Abraham, being generous, allowed Lot to choose the area he wanted. (At this time, God had not changed his name from Abram to Abraham, but for convenience we’ll call him Abraham. Is that O. K.?) Being the “boss”, Abraham could have said “I want that good land with lush pastures for my flocks and herds.” Instead, in deference, he allowed his nephew to choose the well-watered plain of Jordan. However, it worked out to Abraham’s advantage because Lot and his entourage were captured in a war, the area in which his family resided, Sodom and Gomorra, was burned to a crisp, his wife was turned into a pillar of salt and his daughters, in an attempt to carry on their father’s legacy, committed incest with him while he was drunk. Often, it may seem that God’s way puts us at a disadvantage, but at those times we must trust in the faithfulness of our Heavenly Father.
